Identify your top three (3) issues that you wish to address during your tenure in office and rank them in order of priority.
Increase investment in infrastructure to keep pace with Carmel’s population growth.
Increase investment in public safety to hire and equip additional police officers to keep Carmel a safe, family-friendly community.
Continue building successful partnerships with local businesses and corporations that are mutually beneficial, sustainable long-term, and inclusive of private businesses and relevant nonprofits.
What do you believe is the role of the City Council in our community?
The city council as a legislative body should work with the mayor as a co-equal branch of government to ensure sound fiscal decisions are made in a transparent manner. The city council could should be a check and balance on the executive branch providing confidence to the public that there is transparency and accountability. The community should feel as though all parties, to include businesses, will be treated fairly.
What experiences and qualities do you think makes you the best candidate for this position?
Aside from my broad life experiences, I have almost 7 years on the council as evidence as to why I think I am the best candidate for the South Central District. I have proven that I am a critical, independent thinker who is not afraid to share differing opinions. I have shown that I can work with the mayor and council though I might disagree on levels of risk, transparency and accountability. When I have disagreed, I listen to the those with whom I differ, and then I provide my rationale in a thoughtful and professional manner.
How will you work with OneZone Chamber to ensure a thriving business community?
Too often I relied on other councilors who are or have been active business owners in Carmel to be a liaison for me with OneZone. Most of my district has been and continues to remain residential. That led me to concentrate more on HOAs and neighborhoods and less on the business community. I need to do a better job of attending OneZone events and engaging individual members of the chamber.
