Identify your top three (3) issues that you wish to address during your tenure in office and rank them in order of priority.
Resident focused development. Our community has seen huge economic and population growth. I believe the focus of further development should be tuned towards the direct benefit and enjoyment of existing and incoming residents. We’ve seen an explosion of business development, and that is amazing. But with fewer opportunities to deliver the amenities our residents demand in their home town, we need to refocus on what a community like ours is lacking.
Engaging residents in big decisions. It is incredibly difficult to educate yourself as a resident about what is happening within city hall. Decisions are made before they are discussed with the community, and in particular council meetings present only the last step. I believe residents should be engaged with first and council meetings should be open and informative for the community.
Schools and community. When it comes down to it residents choose Fishers for two main reasons; our great school system, and our community. I believe the city should partner with our school leadership to help them deliver a learning environment that is open, rigorous, and fun. When it comes to community, we can boast about our safety, our nice roads, our beautiful homes. Where we are lacking though is a cultural center and identity. Ask yourself, what is Fishers known for? I hear from too many friends and neighbors that they spend free time outside of Fishers. For a community with our wealth and talent we should expect a grander vision.
What do you believe is the role of the City Council in our community?
The role of City Councilor is one of representation. But in order to represent my community I don’t plan on passively waiting for residents to come to me. To truly engage with residents and understand their needs and desires I will be actively educating them on issues the city is facing. I will measure my success by the number of engaged residents we see at council meetings and at smaller gatherings within my district that I plan on holding.
What experiences and qualities do you think makes you the best candidate for this position?
Throughout my career as Designer I’ve worked primarily with small business owners. I listen to the vision they have for their company and execute a plan to help them communicate that to their customers. The key to my success is an open ear. I will continue to use those skills in listening to the business leaders in Fishers but I also believe every resident is the CEO of their own home enterprise. Both business owners and residents are working hard to make this city a great community. As a father of two kids who enjoy the benefits of our great schools, I know first hand how important this part of our community is. And as an HOA President I know how difficult it is to get support and participation within a community. Most importantly I truly enjoy talking to people from all walks of life, and Fishers is full of so many interesting stories to hear.
How will you work with OneZone Chamber to ensure a thriving business community?
I’ve enjoyed being a part of OneZone over the years. I’ve attended many events, including hosting booths at open houses. OneZone was also on hand to celebrate my company’s rebranding to Image360 some years ago. I know what an asset OneZone is to our local business community. As a city leader I will continue to encourage business owners to engage with our local community through OneZone and I will work to find new ways the City of Fishers can partner with the Chamber.
