Public Safety: Please share your vision for Public Safety under your administration.
I want to ensure Carmel remains one of the top-rated cities for safety. It’s an integral part of my strategy for economic development and quality of life. To do this, I will focus on open lines of communication with our public safety workers so that we can hire and retain the most qualified individuals and equip them so they can keep themselves and our community safe.
Roads & Infrastructure: Please share your vision for Roads & Infrastructure under your administration.
I will prioritize infrastructure investments in a fiscally responsible manner that maintains our neighborhood streets, roads, drinking water and wastewater management. It’s critically important that we update aging underground infrastructure in places like Home Place along College Avenue to better handle stormwater and wastewater while maintaining our roads.
I supported an investment of $10.5 million in upgrades to the city’s wastewater plant to increase capacity from 12 million gallons per day to 14 million gallons per day. Additionally, the investment includes an installation to capture the methane produced that is currently being flared off. This investment will capture the methane and pipe it into underground storage tanks. The methane will be used to power our wastewater plant or be sold in the biogas market resulting in less pollution released into the air and a major cost savings to the plant’s annual energy usage.
Economic Development: Please share your vision for Economic Development under your administration.
My vision for economic development includes moving Carmel forward through regional collaboration. Carmel has gone it alone in the past, but as mayor I will look to partner with surrounding cities to make us more competitive as a region. We should not view our competition as Indianapolis, Fishers, Westfield etc but rather should focus on how we can collaborate to build a regional powerhouse that competes with cities like Nashville, Charlotte, Columbus and Denver. Indiana has long suffered from brain drain, losing our best and brightest talent because of extremist policies. To reverse this trend, I will partner with neighboring cities to bring more opportunities and support policies that attract and retain our young people right here in Carmel. Quality of Life: Please share your vision for Quality of Life Amenities under your administration.
Carmel is thriving because of its focus on quality of life and world class amenities which attract and retain residents and businesses. Carmel has done an excellent job of attracting corporate headquarters with high quality jobs. Companies have chosen Carmel because of the strong schools, low crime, and a wide variety of amenities including open public spaces, biking and walking trails and a vibrant arts community. These factors attract companies and the educated workforce that they need to be successful. I plan to continue supporting policies that encourage smart development and a welcoming environment that will attract and retain the talent those businesses need. As Mayor, I will work tirelessly to support Carmel’s growth and maintain our city’s status as one of the best places to live in the country.
