Identify your top three (3) issues that you wish to address during your tenure in office and rank them in order of priority.
Sustainability: protect the city for future generations through forward-looking, operational and fiscal responsibility to ensure Carmel stays the world class place it is for years to come
Invest in the Community: continue to strategically invest in infrastructure, public services, and public amenities to meet the needs of the city and its residents as the community continues to grow and evolve
Placemaking: Focus on fostering a community and economic ecosystem where people and businesses want to come and stay
What do you believe is the role of the City Council in our community?
The City Council serves as the primary check and balance on the Mayor’s executive authority. Council members represent the interests of their respective constituents, both residents and businesses, through rational and strategic review of all proposals. The goal of this review is to ensure that the city’s revenue is spent (1) responsibly and sustainably; (2) on projects, programs, and initiatives that positively impact the community; and (3) with intentionality to ensure services and infrastructure are in place to support the continued growth and evolution of the city.
What experiences and qualities do you think makes you the best candidate for this position?
I have spent the last 8 years helping the state, communities around the state, and residents and businesses in those communities implement programs, processes, and procedures to improve their systems and qualities of life. My experience and expertise gives me a broad perspective and a unique, statewide context that will guide my review of proposals that come before the Council. I have and can effectively advocate at the federal, state, and local levels. I am a thoughtful and strategic thinker and have a strong ability to see all sides of multifaceted issues - understanding and exploring potential outcomes and consequences of actions. I strive to be inclusive of alternative perspectives in my decision-making process and am adaptable to change when facts and/or circumstances require a different path.
As a foundation to all of that, I have called Carmel home my entire life, and my wife and I have chosen to raise our family here. This community is excellent and has been so all my life, and I have a strong desire and drive to see it move towards a continuously more excellent future.
How will you work with OneZone Chamber to ensure a thriving business community?
A community with a thriving business ecosystem is and will always be a thriving community. To that end, I will be happy to partner in any and every capacity. OneZone serves as an integral voice and perspective for Carmel. I will take any input you are willing to offer as I make decisions and will use my position on the Council to try to find solutions to problems you bring to my attention. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if there is anything that I can do to positively impact our community; I promise to do the same.
